Metadata - the information about a song, album and artist as contained within an audio file, has become key to the future of digital music.

Metadata has been traditionally used as a means to navigate a musical collection by album, artist, composer or genre. As digital music spreads, metadata is increasingly important as a means to enhance the user experience by means of added items such as biography, artwork and discography's. metadata can be harnessed as a powerful tool to profile listener tastes and build unique playlists and build additional profile information for such areas as related artists and alternate titles.

The issue with metadata historically has been its lack of consistency - composers such as Bach presented as 'Johnann Sebastian Bach' , 'J.S Bach' and 'Bach' . Box sets can be numbered non sequentially. Artists can be catalogued incorrectly and genres can be highly inaccurate.

Ripfactory works with metadata providers, aggregators, service providers and end clients in a number of different ways:

  • Supply of its Audiogroomer employing technology to allow automated cleaning of metadata at client, service provider or enterprise level.
  • Development of standardised metadata schema for linear (wav) audio files
  • Development and implementation of 'deep tagging' schemes for enhanced user experiences
  • Automated artwork databases
  • Audio fingerprinting and identification
