Best Metadata
Metadata – the text information detail of an album is key to ease of navigation and finding the correct track, album or artist needing played. This data is normally grabbed from the internet from sources of information that are submitted by end users and as such can often contain incorrect information, misspelling and differing artist names which of course causes difficult navigation. Ripstation uses licensed, paid for metadata services from industry leaders All Music (www.allmusic.com) and GD3 (www.getdigitaldata.com) which present the information in a consistent and precise manner each and every time. With a combined collection size of over 5 million albums , our data sources provide us accurate, current information for every album you process.
Depth of Data
Frequently, more and more devices use additional fields of information – such as Composer, Conductor, Year and musical type to enable quick navigation, and our data sources provide up to 22 ‘deep’ levels of information for feature rich presentation.
Cover Artwork
Key to a great presentation is cover art, an image of the original CD cover and combined with our metadata sources and sophisticated web technology, Ripstation delivers high resolution format images for each and every CD. So whether playing it on an iPod or large screen Plasma the best resolution is assured.
Genres
Genres are used to classify data in a musical type – such as Rock, Pop, and Classical. But did you know that right now there are over 3000 different genres listed? Navigating by genre can be a difficult task which is why Ripstation ‘maps’ this large bank of genres to a much narrower range allowing instant retrieval with a tightly defined genre.
Consistency Checking
Using multiple data sources, Ripstation automatically ensures that the data is consistently presented between sources, we check spelling, we ensure box set numbers match, and we append the artist name to Greatest Hits collections. In addition we ensure that any of your compilations have individual track artist names, and for classical music composers are always named in a similar way by last name. Every single routine of this process has evolved over years of CD processing with millions of CD’s to ensure you get the best and most accurate data.
Classical Music
Classical music has long been the problem child of metadata – alternate composers, no composer information, composer swapped for performer, box set numbering and incorrect album titles. Our combination of data sources, deep data and consistency checks ensures your classical collection is presented in a logical, consistent and sequential manner. We add Composer, conductor details, performance dates, piece or part information and even soloist information to ensure you have all of the information at your fingertips for maximum enjoyment.
Error Checking
Each and every CD is checked for errors at the point of conversion using a system of error checking known as ‘C2’ and ‘Jitter’. In effect this means that we check not only the ability to read from the drive, and the overall encoding process but also the end result. We can tell if you have a pop, skip or jump on a damaged CD and automatically correct for it.
Superb sonic quality is a vital component of a successful conversion.
Compatibility
When is an MP3 not an MP3? It’s a typical technology battle of standards, one software item handles information this one, one another. Ripstation is built and tested for every device on the market and our liaison with manufacturers direct means that we are ahead on new features and capabilities. As such, no matter the format or device, Ripstation ensures that all information is presented correctly in order to enjoy full compatibility of your collection.
Encoding
Ripstation uses custom tailored routines for encoding which maintain sonic quality at every stage, so whether it’s FLAC or MP3 our conversion routines are simply the best there is.
Reporting
At the end of your conversion, Ripstation provides a detailed breakdown of everything converted together with a detailed list of anything that was badly damaged that could not be converted. This instance is low, but it is vital to know. In addition, optional components such as AudioFile can be used to present the user with HTML or PDF catalogues.
Backup
As part of the process Ripstation offers DVD or Hard drive back up to ensure collections are always to hand and our philosophy of data and sonic integrity is maintained in this process by checking each and every file we release as part of the quality assurance process.
On line Storage
Ripstation enables us to provide an on line locker of the music collection so it can be listened to or added to it at any future stage.
